Advantages of ecoremendiation of degraded soils and contaminated sediments

As with other ecoremediation measures, soils and sediments ecoremediations also have multipurpose effects. Advantages and the most important characteristics are:

  • affordable solutions as compared to the excavation of soils and their mechanical, chemical and physical treatment
  • establishment of a new ecosystem and increased biodiversity
  • reduction in wind and erosion
  • removal of pollutants through their incorporation into plant biomass, microbiological conversion and binding with substrate
  • possibility to use the produced biomass for heat energy, biofuel, industrial raw material, etc.
